Welcome to the British Lions Football Club

Sportplatz Westend, Spandauer Damm 150 in 14055 Charlottenburg

We would like to inform you of how the club is organised and also some general information about the club, how you can get involved and the membership.

General

The club has currently 3 teams.

The First and Second teams both play in the Berlin Freizeitliga. The first team are currently in the Verbandsliga and the second team in the Bezirksliga. We are therefore looking for players who can strengthen both teams, but are of at least Bezirksliga standard.

We also have an Over 32's team who train regularly and play weekly matches. We would welcome any new players to come and join them.

The type of player we are looking for has to be committed to the club cause. With commitment, we mean someone who during the season is prepared to give up one evening a week to train regularly and most Saturday mornings to play the games.

Training

Training is every Thursday from 8-10 pm & Monday 7.30 - 9.30 pm at Sportplatz Westend, Spandauer Damm 150 in 14055 Charlottenburg. Afterwards there is a chance to have a drink and discuss team matters.

Matches

Home matches are normally played on a Saturdays (First team 10.30 am/Second team 12.20 pm) at Sportplatz Westend, Spandauer Damm 150 in Charlottenburg (venue does change occasionally). Away matches can vary in day, time and venue.

Organisation

The club is self-organised, meaning that everything that happens has to be organised and done by its members. The club is run mainly by five people: the chairman, the vice-chairman and the treasurer who take care of club matters. The first and second team managers deal with matters on the playing side. Certain players volunteer to take on responsibilities such as: looking after the kit, phoning through results of the games, looking after the first-aid kit, looking after match-day balls and collecting outstanding fees etc. If you would like to get involved, talk to one of the managers or members of the Board.

Kit

The club will supply you with a kit (socks, short and shirt) as soon as you have transferred a deposit of 25 Euros to the Clubs account. When leaving the club and upon returning the kit, we will return your deposit.

Membership

The club offers active and passive membership schemes.

Membership with the club is not dependent on how many matches you play or how many trainings you attend. It is a monthly fee to cover membership to the club.

Active club membership costs €10 per month, payable in advance in two instalments by direct debit. These are due on April 1st and October 1st respectively.

Passive club membership costs €20 - 25 per year also payable in advance.

The fees are used to cover the following:

No one involved in running the club is paid for their services, although the club does offer reduced fees for people who are prepared to take on certain responsibilities. For details, please check the Forum under “Membership” and talk to one of the Board members or Frederik if you think you qualify for a reduction.

The Club’s Charter is available on the British Lions Website. Details listed below.

We need members to pay their fees on time, and therefore use the standard Berlin League Fee system (DFBverein) where the club can automatically withdraw the money from your account when the fees are due. Any alternative arrangement needs to be discussed with the board directly.

Joining

You can join the club immediately but the registration process for playing in the league can take a few weeks to be processed. To register please speak to a member of the board or one of the club managers. As part of the registration process you will need to complete the “Beitrittserklärung / Sign Up” form, player registration form and supply one passport sized photo and a printed copy of your passport.

Resigning

There is a three-month period of notice when resigning from the club. Resignations have to be made in writing to a member of the board.
